Foundation Portfolio - Brief
For my Foundation Portfolio, I will be researching different opening sequences from different genres, to get an idea of the typical conventions found in this section of a movie. My findings will ultimately influence the opening sequence I need to create from an imaginary feature-length film (which will last no longer than two minutes).
During this research, I will be finding the main conventions for opening sequences, but also looking at the similarities and differences between different genres, which will widen my knowledge to help me decide which genre I want to work in and, then, help me to create an authentic opening sequence for that genre.
Once I have decided which genre to focus on I will look at a number of opening scenes from that genre to see how genre might influence the mise-en-scene, music choices and even the fonts for the titles.
As I continue through the research element of my coursework, I will be posting my research on this blog, which will allow me to track my progress and ensure that I include my findings in my final product. I will also present a series of digital evaluations at the end of the blog.
At this point in the process, I don't yet know what genre I am going to explore for my opening sequence but here are some of my favourite opening sequences from a range of genres.
