Opening Sequence Analysis 2 - 'Jurassic Park'

The second opening sequence I am going to look at is Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park, which belongs to the action/adventure genre.

This opening sequence does the following:

• Shows credits and company logos such as "Universal", along with actors' names and the title of the movie
• Uses suspenseful music to increase tension, which is typical of the genre
• Non-diegetic titles identify the location where opening scene is set, clearly establishing setting
• Establishes the genre of the film through mise-en-scene (props, setting and costume) and music
• Creates enigma/mystery - specifically regarding what is in the cage
• Uses film language to create suspense - slow editing, slow camera movement, low-key lighting
• Introduces character types that are typical of the genre
