Opening Sequence Analysis 3 - '13 Going on 30'

The third opening sequence I am going to look at is Gary Winick's 13 Going on 30, which is a romantic comedy.

This opening sequence does the following:
  • Shows credits and company logos such as "Revolution Studios" along with actors' names, the director's name, the names of other crew members, and the title of the movie
  • Upbeat music which corresponds to the genre (rom-com)
  • Serif text which is a font style frequently used for rom-coms
  • Introduces the main protagonist and shows her character traits as "unpopular" by the failed school picture and also shows her "status" in high school through the way the characters interact with each other - she is desperate to please the popular kids in school
  • Introduces the main protagonist's best friend (sidekick) - an important character type in the genre
